Senior Camps

MidSummer Macon Senior Camps are designed for students ages 13-18 who have had some previous training in the camp they choose. Camps in this category offer private lessons, rehearsal sessions and group classes. All camp students have a performance opportunity at the end of the camp session. Music, Theater and Visual Art Camps are two week camps while Creative Writing, Dance and Rock Band Camps are one week. The dates are listed below. Senior Camp students may board on campus or attend as a commuter student. It should be noted that many of the camps have evening rehearsals and senior campers are required to attend the evening community performances. Auditions are not required for admission, but each camp has a required placement performance the Sunday afternoon prior to the camp's start. Students choose from the following Senior Camps:

  • Voice/Chorale: June 15-27, Tuition $475 Boarding/Meals $495

  • Theater Camp: June 15-27, Tuition $475 Boarding/Meals $495

MidSummer Macon Senior Camps: Ages 13+ (younger students will be considered based on training and experience)

Schedule: Classes are 9-5 daily; rehearsal times vary by camp and may include evening hours.

Camp Details :

Creative Writing - This one-week camp challenges the student who loves the written word with non-traditional approaches to writing. Essay, journaling, poetry, oral histories, fiction and non-fiction are all covered. Spend time with local authors and learn the ins and outs of getting published. Bring your laptop and samples of your writing. One segment will focus on the new essay requirements of the SAT exam.

Rock Band Camp - This is a great opportunity for guitar and percussion students to develop their individual performance skills and work together in a "band". Students will receive two private lessons, classes in composing and basic music theory. Jamming and a studio session to record a CD are a major part of this camp. Rock Band Camp will be for two weeks, June 15-27 with one week sessions optional.  Auditions for placement will be on Sunday, June 15.

Harp Camp - Students will have private instruction in harp and opportunities for solo and ensemble work. All harp students will participate in the core music classes: music history, music theory, and composition. (June 15-27)

Piano Camp - Taught by an excellent team of piano faculty, piano students will have private instruction, classes in jazz piano, hymns, accompaniment, and performance skills. All piano students will participate in the core music classes: music history, music theory, and composition. Students will also have opportunity to play with other instrumental students. ( June 15-27)

Violin Camp - Violin students will have private instruction, classes in chamber music solo performance and auditioning. All violin students will participate in the core music classes: music history, music theory, and composition. There will also be opportunities to play with other music students in ensemble work. (June 15 - 27)

Voice/Choral - Students will have private lessons designed to meet the students' individual voice plans. Music instruction will cover from classical to pop. Voice students will also have classes in chorus, auditioning and musical theater. All voice students will participate in the core music classes: music theory, music history, and composition. Voice Camp students may choose a classical track or contemporary track.  The contemporary track will work with the musicians in the rock band camp. (June 15-27)

Visual Arts - Taught by a group of talented visual artists, students will classes in art history, drawing, painting (oil, watercolor, and acrylic) sculpture, mixed medium and pottery. Students will receive a list of art supplies to bring to camp at registration. Visual Art students will host a gallery show the evening of June 27. (June 15-27)

Theater Camp - Taught by a team of actors and directors, students will have workshop style classes in acting, character development, auditioning, voice and dance for stage, stage combat and other key skill building experiences. Theater students will star in a Theater Revue the evening of June 27. The performance will include excerpts from well known classic dramatic shows as well as musical production numbers.
